Day #54 Galveston, TX

The rain reduced to a drizzle and Karen and I went to church before heading to Galveston.

Tomball United Methodist Church

I am not sure I knew that Galveston was an island. I should have remembered as they have been devastated by floods more than once.

Hurricane Ike, only a category 1, devastated Galveston in 2008 and weathermen are reconsidering the rating system. The difference was it was a very slow moving storm and the sea surge caused extensive flooding. This historic pier and hotel is now this...

Our hotel room was not quite ready. The next decision was easy. Seafood!
Server, Cassie, took good care of us

Mmmmm Crab pot!

And a shark attack, or two...

Hotel on the beach with a balcony view of the Gulf Coast.... And an added gift of a room rate more than half the price in the change from Saturday arrival to Sunday arrival!

Time to get the tootsies in the Gulf while we wait for a 4 p.m. tour. The water was much warmer than the Pacific north or south.

The holes along the beach are sea critters. I dug one up in a very small shell. I couldn't get a bigger one out, but we watched it blowing bubbles as it worked to reestablish his blow hole from below. Fun.

Surfers here, too.

I did not get the memo that Karen doesn't do wind or water. Duck Tour was next! (She was a trooper and I deleted bad hair photos.)

On land.....

and on sea!

A quick stop at Murdock's after the Duck Tour for postcards and I spotted cousins of my roommates in Thousand Oaks, CA!

Pretty Hermit Crabs! (This one was for you, Mel!)
Another quick stop back at the hotel to photoshop pictures and get the tangles out of our hair before heading out to find some dancing music. We found it in Old Town Galveston.

Wicker bike hanging from the ceiling.... pretty cool.

A colorful rooster with an attitude.

Fun dancing!

Even the dog had a good time!

We crashed shortly after nine as, hey, we have another day in Galveston and the sun will be shinin' !
