Friday, August 31 was Day #2 in Vancouver. After a quick breakfast, Lorrie and I checked out of the hotel and walked to blue line Trolley stop.
Early in the day on the blue loop we were introduced to the
Smiling Yogies. What fun to watch people mimic the poses. They were created as
an exhibit that ended up being purchased for 2.5M so they are a permanent
fixture in English Bay.

Stella skylines |
A transfer to the red line at Canada Place to start the loop. First stop Stanely Park.
Mermaid statue that oversees the tide going in and out. |
1,000+ year old western cedar tree. They typically hollow out at some point and make for great photo ops! |
The next hop off was to catch the Falls Creek Ferry
and a short, but pleasant ride to Granville Island.
Purely creative... love the barnacles on the wharf pillions! |
And just a sampling of baked goods in a big, indoor market filled with fresh fish, produce and all kinds of jems, including Salsa Verde from a good-looking, gay Canuck!
Beads made me think of my friend and colleague, Michelle! |
Walking to find the blue trolley connection we discovered more interesting talents and sites. |
Next hop off on the blue trolley, Dr. Sun Yet-Sen's Chinese Gardens in Chinatown named the best urban garden in the world this year by National Geographic. Peace and tranquility found in the midst of Vancouver, the second largest city on the west coast, surpassed only by LA. |
Circles and squares... signs of heaven an Earth. |
Few flowers, except those that live long like orchids. |
A quick picture of the Steam Clock in Gastown...
And back on the Red loop, Lorrie and I made our way to ride through Stanley Park again for more pictures and more stories from the different trolley drivers.
This is the Cannon Tower. Every night
at 9 p.m. the gun was sounded to help
ships correct their navigation relative to the tides.
Oops... this truck didn't quite make the underpass clearance! |
Native American culture is prevalent everywhere in Vancouver. |
The Yogies found life preservers during the day! Apparently
different groups have fun dressing them up!
I keep meeting these great people, happy and low maintenance! |
Lorrie's pic of me taking pictures with my new friends! |
Lunch on the English Bay waterfront...
A fresh mint Mohita
Testing the waters in English Bay and collecting shells.
After one last taxi to the Amtrak station we boarded for
home, but, once again the trip was met with delays.. freight train ahead of us
hit a deer and extra customs time.
Peace bridge at the boarder |
Customs station |
Late, but safe arrival back at the King Street Station in Seattle... welcomed again by the moon! |
Lorrie and I were tired, but happy and excited to share stories and
pictures. We did it well. I would go again in a heartbeat and do some of the
things we didn’t have time to do in this mini-adventure!
